More Drum Than a Marching Band Battery

First, shop news.

We have added another new item from Major Craft.  Similar to their slow pitch jigs, we now have Major Craft Jigpara Tungsten Jigs.  With tungsten being 1.74 times heavier than lead, these will allow you to present a much smaller presentation without sacrificing weight, perfect for when fish are concentrating on small bait.

How is the fishing?  The surf fishing has totally blown up with Black Drum in the surf.  They are feeding on clams.  We have had reports from anglers that say they had a fish on before they could get a second rod out, and groups of anglers had multiple double and triple hook ups.

Mixed into this are striped bass, who are also taking clams.  The bluefish are still around and they are still taking mullet or cut bunker.  Poppers and swimming plugs are also working.

While they are completely overshadowed by everything else going on, the fluke are in the surf and are hitting bucktails and Gulp!

In the bay, the big bluefish are still readily hitting poppers and spooks

Some recent notable catches:

Sunday evening @lizzyribas was out catching fish for @david_eurell and our own Scott out on Island Beach State Park.  The drum bite was off the hook.  They went 13 of 16 for Black Drum and had two striped bass also, all on fresh Grumpy Clams.  She let David hold one fish, but I guess Scott wasn’t allowed to hold any.

There are some good fluke in the surf. Mike Vaccarino with a 23 inch, 4.75 pound fluke that fell for a Gulp! grub fished on a teaser.

The drum fishing was off the charts Sunday but there were also nice bass in the mix. Here’s Rich with a good one.
