Things Are Heating Up Around Here

First, shop news.

We have had a couple of inquiries regarding the ongoing forest fire in ocean County.  First, commendations for the great work all of the first responders are doing for this fire.  For those who still want to come to fish, as of the writing of this report, most major roads are open.  If you are coming from New York and north Jersey, the parkway is open down to Rt 37, as is Rt 37 into Seaside.  For those coming in from western New Jersey and the Philadelphia area, Rt 70 is open through to Rt 37.  Watch for deer though, there seems to be even more since the fire started up.  If you are coming up from south Jersey, the parkway through the area of Waretown and Forked River is currently open, but you may want to check before you make the drive in the unlikely case this flares back up.

Just a little sneak peak at something coming soon…

Is it worth making the drive?   We think it is worth it.  How is the fishing?  The striped bass fishing in the surf is getting better by the day.  It’s mainly a clam bite at the moment, but in the spring it could change over to bunker or lures at a moments notice.  We currently have fresh clams in the shell and fresh bunker in stock.

In the bay, the bass bite remains very good.  Clams are taking their fair share of bass, along with small plastics swimmers and small swim shads.  We have not heard of a surface bite yet, but again, this is the time of year things could change with a wind change or tide change.

The drum are still biting, but are inconsistent.  One day they are there and feeding heavily, and the next day they have either moved somewhere else, or are not feeding.  When they do feed, they are taking fresh clams.

Here are some notable catches:

Our Cover Shot: Hunter Burke had a nice afternoon on the Surf. He released this guy on a Grumpy Fresh Clam.

Alexa! “Play The Drum Are Back In Town” by Thin Lizzy. @kevinsuter__ picked this one on clams.

Florida Steve doing what he does best—catching bass in the surf! (Why is the guy from Florida catching all of the Jersey bass?  Where are the Jersey anglers?)

@kurtiswalrath did awesome with the bass Wednesday night

Scott volunteered to help fight the fire.  It did not go well…
