The Rain Isn't Stopping The Bite

First, fishing news in the area.

The 33rd Annual NJ Governor’s Surf Fishing Tournament will be held this Sunday, May 19th at Island Beach State Park.  We will be open and will be loaded with bait, assuming our bait boats can get out on the water (lets hope for some nice weather leading into the weekend).  Enjoy a great day of surf fishing with family and friends at the Governor’s Surf Fishing Tournament. Its purpose is to bring awareness of the importance of saltwater recreational fishing and marine resources in New Jersey to the Governor, State Legislators and New Jersey residents. And in shop news…

We have added a new item from Boomerang Tool Company.  We now have the Boomerang Tool Company Xtreme Duty Retractable Gear Tether.  This tool is perfect for hanging your pliers or fish grip from.  The 36 inch long Kevlar tether lets you use the tool without much restriction, and the when done, the tether retracts to stay out of your way.

We also restocked on Capt Bruce's Otter Tails.  Plus, we added a new style, "Straight Thin."  Add this style when you are imitating long, thin baits like sand eels.

The fishing reports took a slow down with the nor’easter that pushed through Wednesday night / Thursday morning.  We don’t believe the fishing slowed down, as the anglers that went out in the weather were rewarded with striped bass and bluefish.  Bait was king, but lures are starting to take both.

We had reports of excellent fishing for bluefish in the bay.  Anglers came in both Wednesday and Thursday saying the bite was great on poppers and spooks.  One angler said he could not get more than three pops on a popper before he had a fish on.

Some notable local catches:

Our cover shot is Mike with a jumbo bluefish from the surf as the weather started to improve Thursday.

Troy Corson didn’t let the weather dampen his spirits. In the middle of the rough weather, he saw good action with both bass and blues on bait.

The other day one of the local plug builders stopped by to see Ray.  When said local plug builder got home later that evening, he was feeling a little under the weather.  By the next morning he was a lot under the weather.  He let our resident mysophobiac know, and he didn’t react well, as you can see in the security screenshot below:

(For those concerned, the local plug builder is on his way to recovery already).
