Fluke, Blues, Kingfish and the funny fish are starting to show.
First, we had to switch up our Penn Battle III and Battle III DX promotion. Apparently, even with the Battle IV and Battle IV DX reels now available, the III series are not quite ready for a markdown. So, with that we still wanted to give you a deal on these reels. Instead of a discount, we are offering free professional spooling for all Battle III and Battle III DX reels. This will be online only. When you put the reel in your cart, you will be asked which line you want in a popup window. Choose your line and click “Spool My Reel”. You will also get either free shipping, or free in-store pickup for your order.
Our neighbors, Yakkity Yak Kayak Rentals are having their end of season equipment sale. If you are in the market for a kayak, stand up paddle board, or any of the accessories that go with them, Saturday 8/24/2024 is the day to stop in and grab what you need.
We received a partial order of the new Penn Battle IV and Battle IV DX reels this week. Come in and check them out.
We also received a nice sized order from one of our distributors. We added a few items to the store from that order. First, we have a nice set of super line scissors from Rapala. It’s always nice to have something you know will cut that braid on you when you are fishing, because we all know the side cutters on most pliers are terrible for braid. Get a pair of dedicated scissors.
Ever have one of those days where you feel you are spending most of your time struggling to unhook that “trash” fish you just caught. You can’t catch a doormat fluke if you are spending all your time unhooking skates, sea robins and dogfish. Get yourself a Calcutta Squall Torque Hook Remover and make short work of unhooking fish.
With the kingfish showing up, we have added a series of kingfish rigs from MaiTai. There are 4 to choose from, with or without floats, with different float colors and different hook configurations. These will also work for spot, blowfish and white perch.
For those of you looking to replace the hooks on the Lucky Craft Pointer DD jerkbaits for fluke, we now have small split rings to go along with them. Check out the Owner Hyper Wire Split Rings, we have them down to some pretty small sizes. We also got a few BKK Split Ring 51s in a larger size than the Owners.
The fluke fishing in the surf has picked up. We heard some good reports on Thursday from all over. Bucktails and Gulp! were working along with the Lucky Craft Pointer DD jerkbaits. There have also been some bluefish in the surf, and the kingfish are making a showing too. We have also received many reports of Spanish mackerel and bonito just out of casting range in the surf. (And that is bonito not bonita as Scott has been putting on Social Media)
In the bay, the word is still SPOT, while the snapper blues are sticking around too. The crabbing still remains good, while the blowfishing is spotty.
Some notable catches:
Our cover shot, plus the two above. Liam spent the day with Shell E Caris and showed the old man how it’s done! He had a great day with fluke and blues off the surf
The Surf is calming down and the Fishing is picking up. Here’s @wefish138 with a nice blue while fluking. He landed this on his second cast.
Gus and Craig are killing fluke on the Major Craft Jigpara slow pitch jigs. They also reported a lot of blues and a bonito.
Joe Desmarais with a 20” 3.05 lb fluke from the surf Wednesday.
@mikey.vaccarino has been throwing the dice and coming up with Bonito on Hogy epoxy jigs
Sal from @castawayspublavallette found himself some flatties today. He also reported Bonito being just out of casting range.
So Ray is out of the office, as today is his first day of camping for a week and a half. We heard setup went smoothly, with the camper and tents going up without too many issues. This is unusual in that something usually gives Ray fits during setup. But, everything went up well, so Ray grabbed a drink and went to sit in his camp chair. And the camp chair mutinied on him…
