Ernesto, fluke, spot and snappers
Ray is about to start his annual camping trip (version 2). Since he is leaving the inmates in charge of the asylum, we are going to get started with the shenanigans early. Ray never does this, but he is going to be kind a far away to complain about it, so here it goes. We now have Penn Battle III and Penn Battle III DX reels on sale at 15% off. This is online only, and while supplies of the III series Battles last. While this is an online special and not available in the shop, people who live local and don’t want to pay for shipping can purchase the reel online and choose In-Store Pickup at checkout. Grab one of our most popular reels at a great price (and help us sell these out so Ray doesn't yell at us when he gets back).
MaiTai dropped off some more rigs this Sunday. In that drop off were 4 types of Northern Kingfish rigs, which we have now added to the online store.
There are also 4 new colors for mullet rigs added to the online store.
Even though it didn’t pass close enough to the coast for us to feel the winds or get the rain, the groundswell from Hurricane Ernesto as it went by this past weekend definitely affected the fishing. The groundswell made holding bottom with anything less than 8 ounces a challenge. The heavy surf moved many fish outside of casting range to avoid the heavy surf. There were a couple of people …. Well, I am just going to say it as it is, there were two anglers dumb enough to try to fish the south Jetty of Barnegat Inlet during the peak of the swell. They needed to be airlifted off the tower to save their lives.
As the swell has died off, we are already hearing reports of the fluke fishing in the surf coming back.
The back bay was not really affected by the storm, and the spot and snapper blues were very cooperative for those giving it a shot. The crabbing is still very good too.
We have no pictures for notable catches this week. You don’t need to weigh in a fish even to make the fishing report. Heck, you don’t even need to stop into the shop (for those who find Scott kinda scary…). Just send your fish photos to the number below and tell us a little bit about it in the text message. We will do the rest of the magic
Ray starts his next camping trip in the next day or two. He will be gone for over a week. Besides the usual drinking, eating, and fishing he plans to do, Ray said he is going for a hike. He spent a lot of time picking out a hiking outfit, He should do well.
