Southern Speedsters Have Arrived

First, shop news…

We have added a new lure to the shop from Alan’s Custom LuresThe Magnum is an ABS plastic lure that has a weight transfer system for optimal casting.  It is also through wired to handle big fish.  This swimmer does not dive deep and swims with a tight wiggle fish can’t resist.  With a large eye and proven fish catching colors, you don’t want to pass on these.

Sometimes on the water you just need a pair of side cutters to make quick work of heavy monofilament or wire line.  These simple 6 inch side cutters from Sea Striker fit that bill without breaking the bank for a tool that will handle some salt exposure with it’s nickel finish.

The fishing has been good.  Fluking on the beach remains good with bucktails & Gulp! or Lucky Craft Pointer DD Jerk Baits.  There are also smaller blues hitting mullet and small metals in the surf.  Occasionally, schools of Spanish mackerel or Atlantic bonito come into casting range for the shore bound angler.  When they do, epoxy jigs or Deadly Dicks are working for them.

The boats are also doing well on fluke.  And those Spanish Mackerel and Atlantic Bonito, the boats are getting into them when they are too far out for the surf fishermen.  The boats are also finding false albacore too.

In the bay, the spot fishing, snapper blue fishing and crabbing remain very good.

Some notable catches:

Our cover shot:  It’s funny fish season.  If you’re going on the beach or the boat, bring a resin jig or small metal such as a deadly dick so you’re not left watching these speedsters fly by. Here’s Paulie with a nice Spanish mackerel caught on a Hogy epoxy jig.

The fluke are chewing and Shel E Caris sent us this photo of a 20” fluke on a Lucky Craft jerk bait.

Rick with a nice one caught off the surf on Sunday morning.

Matt O with fluke up to 3 lbs on Gulp! in the surf.

From what we hear is Ray’s camping trip is going just as well as any previous Ray’s camping trips.  What has one wrong this time?  Well, Ray has had visitations from the local wildlife…
