The surf heats up
We had a good weekend of reports in the shop, which means the fishing was good in the general area, and even beyond, but we’ll get to that.
In general, the bay still has small bass in it, the bluefish in the backwaters seem to have gotten smaller, but they are there and hungry. There has been no word from the boats going out for striped bass yet. The surf, however, has been great. We’ll let some of the pictures sent to us speak for themselves.
Dan Primo invited home a nice 34.5 inch, 17.1 pound bass he landed in the surf on a Gibbs popper.
Brian Walters reached out to us through Instagram to share this 37.5 inch bass he caught on Island Beach State Park on fresh shucked clams he picked up at the shop.
Noah Maclary sent in this picture of his crew with a bunch very nice surf caught bluefish. No word on what they got them on but we have heard that surface plugs have been working well for them. Looks like they had a great time.
Our craziest submission came from kina far away. Neropanda1122 went south. He sent us this picture of a nice mutton snapper he caught on gear he purchased at Grumpys, a St Croix Avid rod and a Tsunami Saltx 6000 spooled with 40 pound-test PowerPro line. We may look a lot like a surf fishing shop for the northeast, but we have stuff that works everywhere, including on a wreck off of the Florida Keys.
You may have heard some news about an out-of-control rocket splashing down in the Indian Ocean this past weekend. Well, we have an exclusive look at that rocket, and why it crashed. It might have just been the pilot. Ray did say he always wanted to do that…
