Surf Day
First, shop news…
We will be attending Surf Day, "A Day Dedicated to the Surfcaster" presented by the Jersey Shore Surfcasters. We will be bringing crates of fishing rods, reels, and tackle. If you have been looking for an ODM Evolution but don’t want to wait for a custom build, we will have already built rods with us, both the standard chameleon color and the special gold color Evolutions. We will have blanks available too. Need a reel to go with it, we will have Van Staal reels with us. Or try the new Tsunami SaltX II. We will have both the standard and the ArmourTech version there. And more lures and tackle than we can list. The event runs Saturday February 15th, 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM and will be held at Brookdale Community College 765 Newman Springs Rd, Lincroft, NJ.
The opening of the back bay season is fast approaching, and the surf will heat up shortly after that. Do you have some reels or rods sitting around that need service? Now is the time to drop them off if you want them for the season. Don’t wait until the season starts. If you can’t show up in person, you can send in your reel using the form on this page: Repair My Reel
And speaking or reel and rod repairs, if you have been called about a repair being finished. Please come pick it up. We are running out of room to store them (and Ray is threatening to create a “storage fee policy” for items left too long). If you need your repair shipped back to you, we can arrange that. Just give us a call or contact us here.
Tsunami has redesigned and improved their popular Carbon Shield line of rods with the Carbon Shield III lineup. The big addition is the rods now come with Tsunami’s proprietary titanium guides. If you need a back bay rod, fluke rod, or blackfish jigging rod, these are definitely worth a look.
On Friday, February 28th, Scott will be giving a seminar on fishing the back bay over in Yakkity Yak Kayak Rental. You don’t need to own a kayak to learn some valuable techniques from this seminar. But, if you decide you want to join the plastic armada, you are in the right place.
How’s the fishing? Still slow. It’s the time to get your gear together, go to fishing shows like surf day, and prep for the season.
Ray is not happy, and it is related to football. No, it’s not the outcome of the superbowl. He was going to be unhappy with either result, though if the Chiefs were triumphant, their name at least is similar to a name his former team used to use, so he could have fantasized what it would have been like a little bit. No, Ray is unhappy because some joker put an Eagles sticker on his truck. And that is not even what set Ray off (he really can appreciate a good joke). This particular sticker was applied to the paint. Now, a few of us at Grumpys are flirting with being professional pranksters, and this was a real rookie move. You never apply the sticker to paint, especially when it’s a nice new vehicle. Apply the stickers to glass, but not where it will affect the safe operation of the vehicle. Or better yet, use those flexible magnets. How funny would it be for Ray to go out to his truck and see it covered bumper to bumper in Eagles magnets, like some deranged refrigerator? Well, if it happens, I didn’t tell you to do it…
