Southern Fish Invasion
But first, as always, we present shop news…
We now have some new and improved Grumpys Replacement Plug Bag Tubes. The new tubes have new bottoms that have more than one hole for drainage. Way more than one hole, so if you wade out to a sandbar, or swim out to rocks (in places where that sort of thing happens), you won’t have to wait as long for your plug bag to lose all that water weight. Like the older models, we have them available from single tube up to 4 tube options.
We have added a new sticker from Van Staal to our decal lineup. The Van Staal Boat Decal is an 18” x 2” die cute sticker meant for application to boat gunnels, but will work just as well on the back window of a pickup or SUV, or even on a cooler assuming you have one big enough.
For those who like to make their own rigs, but for some reason just cannot master tying a dropper loop, we have a solution for you. UFSHN has a three way swivel that will do the trick. Unlike traditional three-way swivels, the UFSHN Tee Swivel has a center barrel swivel that can rotate 360 degrees, allowing for a tangle free presentation when bottom fishing, or using a teaser in front of a lure. Check them out.
In the brick and mortar shop, we have restocked on Killer Clam Rakes.
As far as the fishing goes, it seems that some southern species have been pushing north lately. We have recently heard of tarpon, Spanish mackerel, pompano, cobia, blacktip sharks, spinner sharks, and now pigfish (our cover model) showing up in the area. We are just waiting to hear about bonefish being caught on the flats behind Barnegat Inlet now…
For the local fish, fluke are still making a showing on the beach. Bucktails and Gulp!, as usual. Bluefish are still there too, though on the small side. Mullet are taking those, as are small metals and small poppers.
The nearshore reefs and wrecks are giving up some nice fluke lately. Again, Bucktails and Gulp!.
The inshore bluefin tuna bite is still going on. Jigs and poppers have taken a fish here and there, but live squid are still taking most of the fish. We have the squid jigs and squid leader rigs that you are going to need to get your bait.
The bay is still producing spot, blowfish, snapper blues and blueclaw crabs.
We have no recent catch pictures because someone (Ray) posted them as stories, which, to those who are unfamiliar with how these work, disappear after 24 hours. As of the time of the writing of this report, there were no stories to grab pictures from. The writer of these reports highly prefers when the people in the tackle shop (Ray) post the pictures as posts so they stick around for people to actually see...
So, while Ray would certainly deserve the usual end of report abuse, for this report we are focusing on Scott. It seems on Wednesday he blew up his new shoes. It only took 3 days. I believe that is a new record for him. They usually don’t last that long…
At least he is having fun with them now…
