Last Weekend of "Summer"

First, shop news:

We added some new items to the website recently.  We will now ship rod racks for your truck.  We have the Angler’s Fish-N-Mate rod rocks available on the site.  There are 4 and 6 rod holder versions available.  We also have the trailer hitch adapter for those two rod racks.

Have you been trying to fish live bait (like spot) recently but are tired of them dying in a bucket of water.  Don’t want to spend hundreds on a pre-built portable live well?  Get one of these Tsunami Air Pumps and convert anything that will hold water into an impromptu live well.  Live bait works best when it is actually alive…

Going on a trip?  We now have Jigging World Nexus 2.0 travel rods available.  They break down into 3 pieces for easier transport.  These will also work well for those who have a small car but want to keep a rod available whenever they need it.

For those waiting on the new Tsunami SaltX II reels, we received another small shipment, so there are some available now.

We received a restock of Alan’s Custom Lures Combat Gliders, with two new hot colors available.

We also restocked on Hogy Epoxy Jigs and Hogy Heavy Minnow Jigs for those looking to target False Albacore, Bonito or Spanish Mackerel.

As far as the fishing goes, the fluke fishing in the surf has remained pretty good.  We also had reports that there are a lot of fluke in the inlets, but you will have to weed through lots of small ones for a keeper.  The surf bluefish seemed to pick up on Thursday, while the “inshore pelagics” (false albacore, Atlantic bonito and Spanish mackerel) seems to have slowed a bit.  They have moved offshore with the south wind and upwelling, but hopefully the current NE wind warms the water again and brings them back in.

In the bay, the crabbing remains good, the spot fishing remains good, the snapper blues are still making a showing and the fluke bit down by either inlet has been good, but with lots of shorts.  The anglers doing best with fluke in the bay or river are using live spot as bait.

First, some notable recent catches:

Our cover photo:  Pat V (and his awesome winners hat) with an IBSP bass on a sand flea. He caught 3 total Wednesday morning.

With Raymond gone for over a week, the shop has been left to the rest of us to run.  Well, when that occurs, weird things happen.  Like this, for example.  Scott has been in charge of placing (and receiving and putting away) orders in Ray’s absence.  He had the idea to order an automatic egg salad machine for the shop.  I will wait while you read that again.  So far, it’s been a hit.  While David has only had one sandwich, John has had three.  Frank has powered through nine.  So it is safe to say they all approve.  Scott keeps going back into the office every 15 minutes or so, but he never comes back out with an egg salad sandwich.  We can only assume he is eating the egg salad directly from the tap.  Again, sounds like approval to us.  Here is Bob getting ready to enjoy some egg salad.
