Blackfish, stripers, and bluef.... Nope, not quite yet....
We don’t have a lot of shop news after this weekend. I guess ray has been sleeping at the wheel, or in his high chair, recently.
Even when sleepy, he likes his “nanners” (bananas for those of you without kids…)
We did get in more Trailhead tire deflators. The 5-20 lb model in blue or red. We didn’t get many, and they are going fast, so don’t hesitate if you want a set.
We also have a put a bunch of custom ODM Evolutions and Nex1’s built to shop specs, ie what we call spec rods. Spec rods are a good option if you want an Evolution or Nex1 and don’t want to wait to have one custom built. They don’t last long in the rack, and, this may sound repetitive, but don’t wait too long to check them out. However, we will be producing more if you cannot get down to the shop to check them out right away.
In terms of fishing, it’s been pretty good. The “cover picture” for this report is a 28 inch, 14.75 pound blackfish caught by Robert Torissi on his own boat. Exact location not specified for all you spot burners. But he did say he got it on an S&S White Chin Wrecker.
The reports from the oceanside beach have become pretty steady for striped bass. Sunday morning’s rain slowed down the reports we were getting, as it probably kept some fishermen home, but beyond that we heard of some good schoolie to small keeper action on clams, bloodworms, and bunker chunks. Schoolies in the surf have also been hitting kettle creek shads on small jig heads. Other paddletail lures like the Tsunami Swim Shads, Storm Swim Shads, and Vudu Swim shads should work too.
Bass fishing in the bay has remained steady, though the fish are pretty small. For bait, bloodworms are the ticket. For lures, the smallest versions of the lures listed above will all work.
We have had a lot of inquiries about bluefish. Our only answer is we haven’t heard of anything concrete but they should show any day now. This picture below, used courtesy of James Budish, is from April 25, 2015 and was the first bluefish on his boat that year, among the many landed that day. So, in a nutshell, any day now…
