The New "Weigh Ins"

The fishing is steadily improving.  We had no weigh ins at the shop, but with the current striped bass regulations, weigh ins are going to be rare.  Instead, we get submissions through social media.  We got a few interesting ones today.

Striped bass fishing remains pretty good along the beach, and it seems some larger fish have moved in.  We received the following picture through Instagram of a nice surf caught striped bass

Another new development in the surf is the arrival of black drum.  The following pictures was sent in from Island Beach State Park.  This fish was taken on clams.  We have drum rigs, but striped bass rigs (with inline circle hooks) will work too.

The bluefish are still marauding a river north of the shop.   They are on the smaller side, but bluefish are usually willing to eat and very fun to catch.  SP Minnows and metals are working for them.

Our own Online Sales Manager snuck out on a boat with his father and brother today to drag bunker spoons and mojo rigs for striped bass.  It took a while to find them, but once they did, working the area produced a nice catch of bass in the mid 40-inch range.  All fish were released as required by the current regulations.  Pictured here is James releasing one of them.

Still no Battle of the Bulge Fluke Tournament.  One of them is chickening out.  Not sure which.  Actually, it is quite possible they both are…
