The Bluefish Got Jealous
First, shop news…
Our Christmas in July sale is ongoing. The sale on the SandStorm / Daiwa BG combos will go until the end of the day on July 31st. You can save a good chunk of change getting this combo, and you are getting a good solid platform to build a surf fishing quiver at a great price. (to be honest with you, I am surprised Ray made these combos this low…). But don’t take our word for it, see what our customers have said:
All S&S Bucktails are also 15% off until July 31. You don’t need to put in a code to get the discount either. Just put them in your cart and the discount will be applied at checkout automatically.
We have added one new item to the online store this weekend. We have added to our Sun Bum lineup with the Sun Bum Original SPF 30 Sunscreen Face Stick. Small and portable, it’s an easy way to make sure you have sun protection for your face when you are out on the beach or on the water. Especially for your nose, which takes a beating in the sun with both the direct sunlight plus reflected light from the water and your sunglasses.
Last week we said it was a fluke fest, and it still is, but it feels like the bluefish took offense to that and have hit the surf en masse. They are small, but they are feisty and voracious. Small metals like Deadly Dicks or small Ava Jigs have been working very well on them. If you want to fish bait, mullet fished whole on a mullet rig or chunked up on a fireball rig have also been working.
The fluke are still here, but it is difficult to get a Gulp! bait past the bluefish to get to them. Anglers who persisted got into the fluke however.
From the boats, the nearshore reefs and wrecks are producing some nice fish on bucktails and Gulp!
Here are some notable catches:
If you can get under the blues, There is plenty of fluke! Here’s Rich Demarco with a 18 inch, 1.9 pound fluke
Chris Marble came in this morning with two quality fluke up to 22 inches, 3.4 pound caught at island beach.
Rick and Anthony picked through the blues and was rewarded with two nice surf fluke up to 22 inches.
@the_pa_surfcaster7 with his PB Fluke of 17.25 inches and 1.9 pounds. “The Needler” caught it on bucktails and Gulp!
It’s the time of year we start to see some southern visitors in our waters. Here’s one (the fish, not the dude in the orange shorts). Rich Rossellini from Pine Hill with a 4 pound Pompano.
Brett is back again on the fluke bite with two nice fluke caught on Gulp!
Ray was in the shop today, but he was moving a little slower than normal. He may have been a bit hungover, as he was at his sister’s wedding on Sunday. Congratulations Kortney and Tyler! We heard Ray had a good time and was really cutting up the rug. We are thankful to have proof of it. Look at those crazy moves!
