Striped Bass, Black Drum, Bluefish & Fluke, all making a showing...
Ray is back, and the shop has returned to its normal level of (in)sanity. For example, the first day that Ray was in the shop, Scabelly dropped off a small batch of gliders. Ray spilt the order, putting half in the brick and mortar shop and moving the other half to the online store. Neither batch lasted long, with the online store selling out in 10 minutes…
We prettied up the front of the shop with some new window treatments. Here is an example. If you want to see what the other windows look like, come on by the shop. And don’t worry, while the front of the shop looks better, the people inside look just the same as they always do…
Father’s Day is a coming! We have a good supply of Maitai Fishing Gift Baskets for that special father. There are 2 options to choose from; a Fluke Basket or Striped Bass/Bluefish Basket. Both retail for $64.99 each. If you need one shipped, reach out to us at the Contact Us page. We also have Gift Cards if Dad doesn’t fish for striped bass or fluke.
Fishing in the surf has slowed down a little, but certainly has not stopped. We are still seeing bass and drum on clams. The bluefish have made their presence known in the surf too. They are taking mullet and bunker for bait, and are taking poppers, metals, and swimming plugs for lures.
Fluke are also showing in the surf. Bucktail and Gulp! for those. Most are shorts so far, but there is the occasional nice fish being landed. Fluke are also being cooperative in the back bay with those drifting for them in boats.
Here are some notable catches since the last report.
Mark with a nice 16 pounder caught Friday on a Grumpys Clam.
Matt Hage is starting a band, and he already found the percussion. There’s still some drum around.
@bigredmachine96 found some bass on Saturday.
Larry with a beautiful surf fluke well over 18". He wrangled that with a Gulp on a Backlash Surf fluke rig, exclusive to Grumpys tackle.
Now, those who love Scabelly plugs may want to look away for the next picture…
Our own pink-loving Scott with a bluefish caught Tuesday on a (not pink) Scabelly Glider out on Island Beach State Park. He said he also got them on SP Minnows and Mag Darters.
For the “Let’s pick on Ray” portion of the report, we have a special guest photoshopper. Jenni felt that on one of the photos from Ray’s vacation, he looked like a toe. So, to prove her point, she made him a into toe…
