Nice Weekend - Good Fishing

We had a good weekend of fishing.  There are tons of mullet moving through the surf, and that has brought the predators in.

Bluefish were the most numerous.  Fresh mullet on mullet rigs account for most of the bluefish, but they were also falling for swimmers like SP minnows and Mag Darters, poppers, pencil poppers, and metal.

Striped bass were feeding in the surf too, if you could get past the bluefish.  Kettle Creek shads on S&S Bullet head jigs were the best option for striped bass.

There were some out of season fluke caught too.  They fell for fresh mullet, metals and the kettle creek/bullet head combo from above.

Blowfish are still the number one in Barnegat Bay.  They are also being taken in the inlet and the surf near the inlet out on IBSP.  Fishbites, squid and salted clams are taking those.

We heard reports of false albacore being seen breaking out of casting distance, but no photos of any landed, so take that for what it is worth.  You may want to have some resin jigs on you just in case.

There have been big bunker schools up and down the nearby coast.  Occasionally, there are big blowups in the middle of those schools.  We suspect that these are caused by sharks.

The exciting delivery we hinted at all last week never showed up.  Maybe this week.  Ray is disappointed, but he is trying to keep it together.
