New Fluke Technique

Have you heard about Fluke on a hard jerkbait?  Now, those of you who have been around the block more than once is probably thinking “But I have caught fluke on a (bomber/sp minnow/Mag darter/rapala/etc) before.”  We are not talking about the incidental  fluke catches when you are bass fishing.  We are talking about specifically targeting fluke.  A technique developed by Roger Aye of Cooking And Fishing on Youtube is going viral.  Local angler Shel E Caris demonstrated it for Jenni’s Open Boat Vlog for the Fisherman Magazine.

We now have the hard jerkbaits used in the fluke videos.  The Lucky Craft Pointer 78DD is now available both online and in the shop.  You are going to need to swap out the hooks to a saltwater treble.  The technique is proving itself on the local beaches.

The fishing in the surf remains good for fluke, slow for pretty much everything else.  Beyond the “new technique” for fluke mentioned above, bucktails and Gulp! is still producing.

If you are looking to put a good catch of something together, or for those who are entertaining children and are not particular about what they catch, as long as they are catching, the bay is your better bet right now.  Spot are still willingly hitting Sabiki Rigs sweetened with small pieces of Fishbites.  The snapper bluefish are hitting spearing floated under a bobber.  The blowfish are starting to show a little south of the local docks.  Hopefully they will make their way up here.

Crabbing remains very good also.

Some notable catches

Our cover shot:  The Grumpys Crew went out for a “fun” day of fishing (i.e. no tournaments) and had a good day.

The jerk bait method is producing for Shel E Caris

Mark v. found a 24 inch striper on a pink Gulp! while fluke fishing. He said the Grumpy Sandstorm has magic powers.

Adam Caris with Hogy crushing the fluke Sunday morning off the surf.  Here is one of his keepers.  And we assure you the dog was not used for bait, or harmed in any way.  Hogy may actually be the angler here, catching all of the fish.

Monday morning was still producing fluke. Here’s Bob Hatley with a 21 inch,  3.65 pound fluke caught on Gulp!

Still Monday morning, still producing fluke. Zach Zukowski with a 21 inch 3.55 pound caught on Gulp!

For those who don’t know, Ray is the consummate sports fan.  It’s great that he supports a bunch of teams across a bunch of sports disciplines, but it is not so great for the teams or athletes he loves.  For example, he is a huge fan of the Washington Comanders, who have been terrible since the day he decided he was a fan.  Does anyone remember the ABC Wide World of Sports opening credits?  Remember the “agony of defeat” skier?  That was Ray’s first favorite athlete.  So, with the Olympics currently going on, which country does Ray root for?  Bolivia.  Since they attended their first game in 1936, Bolivia has not won a single medal.  Not even a bronze…
