Mullet Time!

First, shop news.

We added Tsunami Forged Inshore Spinning Rods.  Tsunami has created a line of rods with the look, quality, and feel of an expensive rod at a reasonable price.  They started with a high quality blank and built up from there.  You need to feel these rods to believe them.

The hottest lure last spring was the Tsunami Tidal Pro Twitch Baits.  The 5 inch size was perfect for imitating spring baitfish.  Now we have a 4 inch version, which will be perfect for imitating the baitfish commonly found migrating in the fall.

We pulled the trigger a little bit too early last time we put the Penn Battle III and Battle III DX on sale.  But now we are good to go with our sale.  So right now, while supplies last, all Penn Battle III and Penn Battle III DX reels are on sale for 15% off.  This is online only, as the new Battle IV and Battle IV DX has taken over the space in the reel case for the Battles.  Let the Battle Begin.

The fishing in the area remains very good.  The fluke fishing in the surf is still plugging along, with both the Lucky Craft Pointer DD plugs and the quintessential bucktail and Gulp! combination.  Bigger news in the surf is the way the bluefish are picking up, with good catches reported using mullet, small metals, or epoxy jigs.  Anglers using epoxy jigs also reported catches of Spanish mackerel and Atlantic bonito.

Anglers fishing the backbay are STILL catching a lot of spot.  Some of those anglers are taking those spot and fishing them live for fluke, and are putting together some really nice catches with fish up to 4 to 5 pounds (or bigger).  A few are even reporting the occasional striped bass as bycatch.

And speaking of mullet, on Thursday we got our first delivery of ocean caught mullet, so fresh mullet is back on the menu.  Our Online Sales Manager took this video early Thursday morning of mullet in a lagoon on the northern Barnegat Bay.  He said no matter what part of the lagoon he shined that light on, fish started spraying. It looks like there will be a lot of bait flushing out of the bays this fall.

Some notable recent catches:

Our cover shot:  Pete and @ryan_rippenlips_haines with an insane limit of Fluke to 8.80lbs caught in the bay on live spot!

Mike Wujek with a 3.85lb Fluke caught in the inlet on Gulp!

In honor of the first fresh mullet of the year arriving at the shop, here is Ray with a fresh mullet haircut.
