More Restocks, and Your One Week Warning
We have had more stock trickling in the past week after our last big order. Especially from Shimano. Last week we had Stradic and Vanford reels, this week our new Shimano arrivals are Saragosa SW reels. These are in high demand, and we did not receive a lot, so if you are thinking of getting one, don’t think too long. They are available both online and in the store in Seaside Park.
For those of you who have picked up your completed rod and reel repairs, thank you! Bob and Frank (especially Frank) appreciate it. Frank was up to his armpits in reels last week. Through dogged determination and great effort, he got that pile of reels down to his mid belly. But just today, 12 more reels arrived, bringing his pile back up to his earlobes. So please, if you have received a call from us about a rod repair or a reel being complete, please come get it. If we lose Frank under this pile of reels we may never get him out. And nobody wants that…
So the bad news is we have no fishing reports to share. Honestly, with the cold and the sleet, snow and rain, no one has gone fishing that we know of, and we pretty much expected that. But there is good news. In one week, on March 1st, two important things happen for NJ anglers. The NJ winter flounder season opens, and the backwaters become legal to target striped bass again. We will have blood worms and salted clams available for opening day. Remember, if you are going to fish bait for striped bass, you need inline circle hooks. And for those who want to throw lures, you are going to need to throw some smaller stuff, like small Tsunami Swim shads, Storm Wildeye swim shads or Vudu Shads. Slug-gos, Fin-S Fish and Kettle Creek shads work great on light jig heads too. And if you want a swimming plug, its tough to beat a small Rapala X-Rap in the early spring. Next week we plan to announce the availability of another great springtime lure. What is that? Stay tuned to find out...
Work any of these lures where there is structure and slight current. At night, an area with constant artificial light helps too.
And we have the perfect rod to throw all these small lures, the RED HOT 7’-6" ODM D.N.A. Back Bay. Pair it with a 4000 size Stradic or Vanford, a 3000 size Battle III or Battle III DX or a Van Staal VR50 for a perfect set up for our back bay fishery. The 8 foot ODM D.N.A. is a good rod for this fishery too.
When reminded of the back bay bass fishery opening, Ray got extremely excited. We probably should not have told him during his weekly bath. He got water all over the place…
I still don't know where he keeps getting the hair...
