In online store news, we restocked some sizes and colors of two of our more popular lures. The Sportfish Products AVA jigs, in mostly 2 and 3 oz sizes, and some SP Minnows, in the 15F and 17F sizes in select colors.
After a holiday weekend of some terrible weather, the fishing is bouncing back nicely. The bass are back in the surf and have started chewing again. The anglers fishing bait have been doing better, with salted clams and fresh bunker both taking their fair share of fish. As far as lures go, Kettle Creek shads remain king for taking stripers in the surf.
As can be seen in our header picture, Jackson and his father stopped in with a weigh-in yesterday. Jackson landed this 32 inch, 11.4 pound bass using a salted clam. He said his father’s rod was on its way into the surf, but he was able to catch it and fight the fish to the beach. We think as a reward for saving Dad’s fishing rod, Dad should buy Jackson his own fishing rod and reel. Whattaya say Dad?
The fluke fishing has also restarted in the surf after the blow. Jigs tipped with Gulp! are all that is needed for them.
In the back bay, the little striped bass are still around. And the back bay fluke fishing remains very good. Also, the bluefish on the local docks are hitting bunker chunks or surface plugs.
Our in-store Kayak fishing challenge between Scott and Ray, a contest Blackcloud Bob has been “affectionately” calling “The Battle of the Bulge”, has been delayed a day or two. Ray needs another day to prepare…
