Blues, Bass, Fluke and Taxes

First, shop news.

We received a shipment of Yo-Zuri lures with a bunch of tremendous new stuff in it.  We are still working through the order, but we can share we got some great new colors in both the Mag Darter and Hydro Minnow LC.  The Mag Darter is now available in Black Back and Double White.  Double White is going to give Bone a run for its money as the most popular color.  The Hydro Minnow LC is available in those 2 colors, plus Bronze Shiner and Yellow (which it apparently was never offered in before).  Stay tuned to see what the other new items are.

We restocked on Grumpys Printed Logo T-shirts.  We have those in a new color also, Olive Green.

The hot bite this past week has been bluefish in the surf.  There have been reports of blitzes where the blues are marauding through schools of bay anchovies in the surf.  Poppers and plastic swimmers have been taking these fish.  Between these events, bait such as mullet or cut bunker has been working.

Striped bass still linger in the surf, and clams are still the best choice here.  Fluke are making a good showing in the surf, and bucktails and Gulp! are the way to for them.

We are still hearing rumors of houndfish in the bay.

Here are some notable catches:

Our cover shot is @highiron60 with a bass he caught in surf on jerk shad while looking for fluke.

This bluefish did not have a good day.  Besides being caught by @ethan.olmeda, the local tax man took his share (and then some) of the bluefish.  Online, some were speculating the damage was done by a larger blue, but that jagged damage is indicative of a much toothier critter.  Might be time to deploy the big game rigs.

To no one’s surprise, Shel E is still at it.  Here he is with a pair of fluke up to 3 pounds that he caught in the surf.

Just a reminder, Ray is out next week.  He and Sean, and respective families are going camping for their annual Camp Out.  Well, the first annual Camp Out of the year, so far.  They have been prepping all week, and it seems now the Boys are ready to go.
