Blitzes, but not what you think…
We had two types of blitzes here the past two days. The first we’ll get to now. We received a large order of Scabelly plugs on Monday. We split them up, with the smaller gliders going on the website while the larger gliders, swimmers and pencil poppers were reserved for in-store shoppers only. We were trying to spread the wealth. The online batch sold out in 45 minutes (give or take a minute). That was officially a blitz. The in-store Scabellys sold well too, blitz-like even, but there are currently 4 plugs left in the store, so that blitz isn’t over. The last 4 will remain as available in-store on a first come, first serve basis. No phone orders (sorry).
As far as other store news, we got in more Berkley Gulp! Alive!® ReCharge Liquid. We have gone ahead and added them to the online store too, so you don’t have to show up in Seaside to get a bottle. Why would you need this now, at the end of fluke season? Well, since we presume you don’t throw away your unused Gulp! at the end of the year, you may want to store it in a way it won’t dry out.
Ok, so you are probably dying to know about the other blitz? Well, not just yet…
We are still hearing of fluke in the surf. The short to keeper ratio has tilted over to way more shorts recently, but the bite is still good and you still have a decent shot of inviting one home to dinner. And for those who have not been paying attention all summer, bucktails and Gulp!....
The tailor blues are in the surf. They are hitting resin jigs and metals, but our own resident asylum escapee Scott was using pencil poppers for them. Oh, that isn’t the other blitz…
We have heard reports the false albacore have moved back inshore. No pictures, so we won’t call it confirmed, but if you are going to the beach, or out in a boat inshore, you might want a resin jig ready for when they pop up. No, this still is not the other blitz either.
Ok, here is the other blitz.
There have been some big schools of bunker moving along the shoreline, and there have been some very toothy critters in them. Yes, the other blitz is sharks. They have been tearing through the bunker schools and putting on quite a show. Some even going airborne, so we suspect there are spinner sharks and/or blacktips mixed in with our resident browns and duskys. A few anglers have hooked up, but no reported landings as they all had mono leaders. A number came into the shop for the wire to make bite leaders.

Ray bailed out of the shop early yesterday, in case anyone was looking for him. He had a back-to-school function for his kid. Now, for those who don’t know, school was not Ray’s favorite subject, and he was glad to get our of there years ago. Going back could potentially trigger some educational PTSD. The teacher asked him one simple question (“And your name is, sir?”) and Ray did not react well…
