A More Normal Fishing Pattern
We received a shipment of Alan’s Custom Lures Mini-Darts. With that shipment, besides restocking some popular colors, are three new colors, Glow, Pearl and Pink.
Penn has announced the new Penn Battle IV and the dealer exclusive Penn Battle IV DX will be out in the fall. These popular workhorse reels won’t break the bank, and Penn has found a way to improve them. Check them out.
The water warmed up and we are into the summer patterns we expected to be in much earlier in the year. In the surf, the fluke bite has improved on both the Lucky Craft Pointer DD jerkbaits and the classic bucktails and Gulp! combo. There are still some small blues being caught in the surf, and we are expecting to start hearing about kingfish again very soon.
The boats fishing the nearshore reefs and wrecks did well recently with fluke. There were reports of small blues outside both of the nearby inlets chasing rainfish. Black sea bass are being caught by those fluking, and the blackfish are cooperating for the few anglers who are trying for them.
In the bay, the spot bite is still going strong. The snapper blues are making a good showing and the crabbing remains excellent. There are also still good numbers of fluke in the bay, but you will need to weed through a dozen shorts to get a keeper.
Some notable recent catches:
Our cover shot: @grumpys_ray called out today and made Scott stay in the shop all day, but at least Ray caught some good fluke. This one goes at least 1 lb. Anyway, Scott is thinking of throwing a party at Ray’s house Monday night at 1 am. He is going to have a contest for who can hide bunker in the weirdest spot. The prize will be a free bunker.
Triggerfish Pat aka Cobia Pat aka Pat V is at it again with some triggerfish. Grab a sand flea rake, a bottom sweeper jig, and go catch some swimming tacos.
As of the writing of this report, Ray will begin his next “annual” camping trip in 5 days. If you need him, you are now on the clock. Once the clock strikes midnight 5 days from now, the inmates will be running the asylum (and by that I mean Bob and Scott).
And yes, I understand there is a certain level of irony using the word "normal" in the title of a fishing report that has Ray as the cover photo.
